I'm Jewel, and I have been living in the shadows for too long. Animal Care Sanctuary has been my home for almost two years now and I have become its second longest resident. While I have grown accustomed to my surroundings as well as the kind people who care for me, feelings of loneliness and unease continue to consume me. Before my rescue, I was a stray who struggled to survive outside. I was always by myself and never trusted people because of my lack of exposure to them. But, I've learned to trust the staff here. They are warm and patient with me as I continue to work on opening my heart to humans. I have come such a long way, but I'm not confident that I will ever fully relax until I find a terrific family who will give me the love, time, and space to be myself. I currently spend most of my time here hiding away and watching the other cats being adopted from my little corner. While I'm thrilled for them, I can't help but feel heavy-hearted. I dream of the day when someone will notice me, choose me, take me home and make me feel safe and loved. But that day seems to never come.
