About Jolie Hendricks
Friends of Shawnee Animals is a volunteer-based non-profit with the mission of saving animals from the Shawnee, Oklahoma animal shelter. Shawnee Animal Control uses a cruel gas chamber for euthanizing, with the gas chamber placed among the kennels for all the animals to witness. Thankfully, this shelter is transitioning to lethal injection, although whether that means heartstick is still unknown. Regardless, the animals there need to be saved. FOSA pulls dogs and cats on behalf of out-of-state rescues and gets them health certificates, urgent medical care, and helps obtain transportation to their new rescue homes. Unfortunately, not all the animals have rescue or foster backing when their time is up. That's when we step in to provide emergency boarding to save their lives until rescue or foster can be found. This is extremely expensive and the dogs languish in boarding facilities for much longer than they should. Finding reliable transportation opportunities across the US means the difference between life and death. We are currently boarding 6 dogs. Two are so depressed from their lengthy stay that they are refusing to eat and are skin and bones. We really need help getting these dogs to pit-friendly states. Colorado takes many of the animals from Shawnee, but has many areas with breed-specific bans in place.
