K-9 Angels Rescue

About K-9 Angels Rescue
K-9 Angels Rescue is committed to rescuing and rehoming shelter dogs in and around the City of Houston, regardless of their breed or their circumstance. We are motivated by the dire need to educate the public about the effects of irresponsible breeding practices, while helping the community by alleviating overcrowding in area shelters.
Our foster-based organization received our 501(c)(3) status in February 2012. We are a 100% volunteer-based, all-breed organization and 100% of donations go directly to the animals in our program and our spay/neuter expenses.
In 2017, K-9 Angels Rescue started The Empty Shelter Project (TESP). TESP is committed to providing free spay, neuter, vaccination, and microchip services to underserved neighborhoods in the greater Harris County area.
The constraints that the pandemic brought on gave K-9 Angels Rescue an opportunity to evaluate where our time, energy, and resources are spent. In 2020, we began emphasizing spay/neuter and transport in an effort to save as many dogs and cats as possible. K-9AR feels strongly that this new direction will have a greater impact on Houston's stray animal problem.
Please see the guidelines for working with our organization below.
The constraints that the pandemic brought on gave K-9 Angels Rescue an opportunity to evaluate where our time, energy, and resources are spent. While continuing to offer adoptions we are emphasizing spay/neuter and transport.
In an effort to save as many dogs and cats as possible we are partnering with rescues and shelters in northern states where they do not have the homeless and stray population that we are experiencing in Houston. With the help of a generous donor we purchased a transport van and have successfully transported over 200 dogs/cats since 2021.
Dogs we choose for transport are up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm prevention, and flea prevention as appropriate, have been in foster homes for 2 weeks or more, and are agreed on by the partner organization before transport. We do not knowingly transport any animal with behavioral issues. K-9 Angels Rescue only transports to partners that guarantee spay/neuter before adoption.
