Franklin County Humane Society

Franklin County Humane Society is a nonprofit started in 2002 to help save the unwanted animals in Franklin County and Northern Wake County. In 2008 we started our spay/neuter program (SNIF) to help low income citizens get their pets altered. So far in 2016, we have saved over 200 animals through the work of our fosters and volunteers.

Our group rescues most of the animals in our foster program from local county animal shelters. Any animal rescued is, depending on age, quarantined for 7-14 days from resident animals. The animals receive all their shots, and are either spayed and neutered and micorchiped. When they are old enough, animals attend adoption events at PetSmart and PetCo. If someone is interested in adopting an animals, they fill out an adoption application which includes personal and vet references. We then do a home visit to make sure the home is appropriate for the animal. The animal usually spends either a night or weekend with the adopters before the adoption is finalized. The contract states that, if in the first 2 weeks, the adopter changes their mind, they can return the animal to us and get their money back. If at anytime during the life of the animal, the contract states they must return the animal to us. If someone wants to be a foster, they fill out a foster application that includes personal and vet references and a home visit. Then we either go to the shelter with the foster to let them choose the animal they want to foster, or they let us know what in a foster, and we find that animal for them. If an animal is pulled from the shelter to be transported, they stay in a 2 week quarantine, receive all their shots, are spayed or neutered, and receive a health certificate before going on transport. We only work with approved rescues and transports.
