About Central Arkansas Rescue Transport
The purpose of CART is to facilitate transport of homeless and/or rescued cats to northern states, reducing overpopulation in Arkansas. We work with local rescues and shelters to pull adoptable cats for transport, making room to save more cats. What distinguishes our program from other transporters is that we pull cats that are very adoptable, ones that our receiving partners can quickly get adopted. This strategy frees up space in our local partners, yet doesn't bog down our receiving partners with difficult-to-place animals.
Please see the guidelines for working with our organization below.
We only pull cats from rescues and shelters in Arkansas, not from individuals. We do not foster animals or arrange for adoptions. Currently we are looking for new receiving rescue partners within a 2-day drive from Central Arkansas. Our Protocol • Cats only. • Must be friendly. Can be skittish with new people but not aggressive or unsocialized. • Three years or younger; older cats if temperament tested and approved. • Unaltered cats if receiving partner agrees to spay/neuter prior to adoption • No FIV/FeLV positive cats. • No blind cats or severely visually impaired. • No on-going medical conditions, except suspected Herpesvirus or sensitive stomach • Tripods, 1 eye removal, other disabilities - acceptable with prior approval by partner. • FIV/FELV test: Neg/Neg results on 1 cat from each litter; mom’s test result applies to kittens • Fecal test: Negative results on 1 cat of each quarantined living group. If positive results, must have a retest with negative results. • UTD Rabies shot, if over 3 months old • UTD FVRCP shot; if less than 1 year old, at least 1st shot • Free of respiratory infection and diarrhea. • Exam of skin, ears, and teeth: Free of ringworm, fleas/ticks, and ear mites. Tooth damage ok if extract is not immediately needed. • Dewormer < 30 days. • Flea/Tick treatment < 30 days.
