About Alpine Animal Service

ALPINE ANIMAL SERVICES (AAS), a department of the City of Alpine, is under the direction of the Alpine Police Department. AAS serves the community of Alpine, Texas by maintaining and operating the City of Alpine Animal Shelter. AAS provides the adoption of shelter pets and the enforcement of animal control laws within the City of Alpine limits. Community engagement is also important with programs such as low-cost microchips and pet cremations when that sad time comes for the family pet. In addition, a new focus for AAS is in the area of community cats. Humane deterrents are being discussed with the community in addition to lethal removal. This is an area that AAS wants to grow. Alpine, TX is the only incorporated City, and the county seat for Brewster County, which covers an area roughly the size of Connecticut. Within the county there are three additional census-designated towns, but these are unincorporated. AAS provides limited support to those towns but does provide care under certain circumstances for stray animals in those areas. A total of 5 employees are key to the community service AAS provides. The AAS Department head, who reports to the Chief of Police, has three Animal Control Officers (ACOs) who are on duty 7 days per week and can be dispatched after hours by the Alpine Police Department. In addition, two kennel workers and a contingent of shelter volunteers are involved to augment many of the services that AAS provides.
