Friends of Shawnee Animals (FOSA)

Friends of Shawnee Animals (FOSA) is a 100% volunteer-based non-profit, recognized by the State of Oklahoma (see attachment). Our 501 (3)c application has been filed and is waiting approval (see attached receipt). Our mission is to save dogs and cats from the Shawnee Animal Control, which uses a gas chamber for euthanization. We work to find rescue groups, temporary fosters, and obtain transportation for the animals. When an animal's time is up, we pull them whether or not they have rescue or foster commitment in order to save their lives. In these cases, we pay expensive boarding bills. Many of the rescues we work with will/can not pay for transportation or health certificates, so that is another added expense. We don't have a lot of donors and rely on donations for 100% of our expenses. Any help that we can get from the rescue community to foster, transport, adopt, or commit to rescue these animals is greatly appreciated and directly saves their lives.

Rescues wanting to tag dogs or cats should fax their paperwork to the Shawnee Animal Control: http://www.shawneeok.org/PublicSafety/Police/SupportServices/AnimalControl/?AID=160012 and designate Vetha Newby as your puller. She is our local person that physically pulls the animals and takes them to the vet for health certificates, to fosters, or to transport points. Then contact us at Friends of Shawnee Animals (on Facebook) or me and we'll work together to make arrangements to get your dogs or cats to you! Guidelines for volunteers are under development right now, and will be posted as soon as they are available.
