About Wadena County Humane Society
Our Mission: Wadena County Humane Society saves the lives of companion animals, finds forever homes for forsaken pets, and advocates responsible animal guardianship in our community. We have a physical shelter and adoption processing center and an active foster program. As part of our mission to save lives, we pull dogs from shelters and rescues in high-kill areas. The number of animals we save outside of our area depends on our own kennel space at any time and the availability of local fosters. We keep our transport partners engaged by inviting them to join our WCHS Fosters! and WCHS Adopters! Facebook groups where they can see updates on many pets that they, possibly you, worked so hard to save!
Please see the guidelines for working with our organization below.
Transparency, Friendliness, Consistency, and a Determination to Save Lives! We accept canine transfers based on the supply and demand of our local shelter at any point. We have no breed restrictions but tend to select dogs of breeds, sizes, or temperaments of which demand may exceed supply at any given time (and it always fluctuates!) We require all dogs to be HW negative, have no contagious illness, and have core vetting completed prior to transport to our shelter. Unfortunately, we are unable to transfer in cats at this time do to high supply of cats in our area. We have limited options for behavior case and expensive medical cases as our local animals in need always take precedence. But we never say never! What makes a magical partnership for us? We love transport partners who send well-taken and multiple pictures in advance so we can pre-market animals and find homes in advance. This reduces the kennel time for the transferred pets and allows us to commit to saving more! Providing copies of medical paperwork in advance is also highly advantageous. We have more detailed transport protocol checklist that we are happy to share with you. Above all, like you we aim to develop partnerships which lead to satisfaction on both sides and maximum lifesaving!
