Houston SPCA

About Houston SPCA
The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston's first and largest animal protection organization and shelter. Our mission is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. We provide the most comprehensive array of animal adoption, shelter, rescue, rehabilitation and other programs and services in the Gulf Coast area. In fact, the Houston SPCA serves two times the number of animals and provides a wider scope of services than any other animal care organization in the region. We intervene on behalf of more than 50,000 animals each year, including cats and dogs; horses and farm animals; small mammals; and native wildlife. The Houston SPCA is a private, non-profit charity, funded entirely by donations, which receives no funding from the government, United Way or other animal groups.
Please see the guidelines for working with our organization below.
All animal transports must adhere to AWAA's Best Practices for Companion Animal Transport Programs. All animals pulled from the Houston SPCA will be up-to-date on all age-appropriate vaccinations, will be spayed/neutered, will be microchipped, will be up-to-date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, will have a health certificate if required by destination state, and will spend 2 weeks in a foster home prior to transport to prevent disease outbreaks.
