About Animal Aid for Vermilion Area

Animal Aid for Vermilion Area is a non-profit 501(c)3 animal rescue organization established in 1995 to serve South Louisiana, focusing primarily on Vermilion parish. Our main goals is to rescue and rehome animals from the Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control facility, a high kill pound that does not allow public adoptions. In 2014, AAVA became the only rescue that is allowed to pull animals from the facility. AAVA and its dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to network each animal to find them a safe place, whether with our own rescue or a partner rescue, locally or nation-wide.

Please see the guidelines for working with our organization below.

Policy and Procedure for rescuing from Vermilion Parish. 1. “Rescue” is responsible for all vetting, transport, fostering and funding. AAVA is available to assist in pulling, transporting, temporary fostering, and vetting but is in no way responsible for the animal. 2. If boarding is required it is a charge of $12 a day. A transport estimate date must be determined and all boarding up until that day must be paid up front to AAVA via paypal [email protected], if transport is missed on the estimated date the charge of $12 a day will be paid daily until the animal leaves on transport. The day of transport if animal is in boarding will also be considered a day. We are charged if the dog is present at 8am. 3. If vetting is required AAVA will provide you with an estimate of the cost, payment must be sent based off that estimate. AAVA will provide you with copies of all receipts and reimburse you any difference. If there is an overage of the estimate we will alert the rescue before proceeding. 4. All transport must be scheduled within 3 weeks of the pull. AAVA can sometimes assist in arranging transport. AAVA must be kept in the loop of all transport discussions via email to [email protected] 5. Youcaring funds will only be sent once the animal has been transferred to your agency. You may apply youcaring funds to vetting and boarding as long as you have a credit card on file with AAVA for any overages. There will be a $.31 fee per donation made to the animal as well as a 2.98% paypal fee charges. 10% of the funds will be kept for AAVA to continue to provide food and medical support to the animals in the shelter. 6. In the case your rescue in any way abandons the animal AAVA will seek legal action for all fees we incur for the care and placement of the animal. 7. Tag last for 24 hours. After that another rescue is free to pull. 8. All pulls must be sent via email to [email protected]. We cannot accept info that is sent in via Facebook or by a 3rd party. 9. Emails must be in to us by 11am the day before to pull before 11am the next day. Once email is in place no changes can be made. If the animal is tagged by you for rescue after 1pm the day before the animal will not be available to pull till after 1pm the following day. Tags sent in before 11am can be picked up as soon as 8am, the shelter request a time that you will come. No same day pulls allowed unless the shelter is at 90% full. 10. You must provide the name of the person you will send to the shelter to pull to AAVA via email to [email protected] 24 hours in advance of a pull. 11.
