Whispering Willows Senior Dog Sanctuary

This is a CAGE FREE TRANSPORT for four senior dogs at Washington County/Jefferson City Animal Shelter, Jefferson City, TN traveling to their forever home at Whispering Willows Senior Dog Sanctuary in Hermitage, MO. Archie is an 11 -12 year old male that was surrendered when his owner moved into a new place that didn't allow pets. Buddy is 14 years old and was surrendered to the shelter when his owner went into the hospital and was no longer going to be able to take care of himself. Thelma and Louise are strays that are estimated to be around 12 years old. Thelma does have a skin infections (not contagious) that makes her very itchy. All four dogs are very friendly, and even though they did not come into the shelter together, they have interacted with one another and get along very well. TRANSPORT GUIDELINES Give LOTS of ear scratches and tummy rubs during your leg of the transport! Be prepared for the transport. We recommend having a slip leash or collar and leash that is well fitted for the dog, puppy pads, fluffy blankets, treats, water dish & bottle of water, and a change of clothes...because you never know when an accident may happen. Send pictures of the dog (s), everyone LOVES freedom ride pictures! Keep in touch, let other drivers and the transport coordinator know if you are running late to the meeting point, and we can make adjustments as needed. Please don't use tobacco products (including electronic cigarettes) in the vehicle while transporting a dog. Tobacco is very toxic to dogs and many are very sensitive to the smoke. We know it's hard to say no when they are begging, but please don't give human food to the dog(s) being transported. Food that is too rich for their system (that is already stressed due to the transport) can make them very ill. Preparing with a variety of dog snacks will make the senior you are transporting feel just as spoiled. We won't tell them it's not really a French fry. Please allow the dog(s) being transported to ride shotgun or be a back seat driver. Many senior dogs have arthritis and get very sore riding in kennels or crates. Putting a blanket down in the seat allows the senior dog(s) the ability to readjust as needed to be as comfortable as possible. Many times a soothing car ride will lull them right to sleep, others may be preparing for that American Idol audition with you. Lastly, NEVER EVER EVER, leave the dog(s) you are transporting alone in a vehicle. Unattended dogs in cars are very dangerous and irresponsible. Seniors are very susceptible to the dangers of heat and cold; also, car upholstery and padding has been known to spontaneously explode when a dog is left in the car alone unsupervised.
